I've been thinking about what I love, and don't love, about Oregon.
I don't know if I have time for it all right now, but I'm going to start it. . ..
Don't love:
Oregon's bottle deposit law. I don't mind 5 cents on a can/bottle, but you need to have a place to return it. Oregon has some shitty machines located at major stores (Safeway, Fred Meyer). There always seem to be some homeless dude there with a shopping cart full of cans. You have to load them in one by one (this is the real problem!) and who the hell has time for that? Also, half the time the machines are broken.
Oregon drivers. Slower traffic to the right please! And why do you give cyclist room when you drive by them, but you're hugging the fucking shoulder when you pass a runner? I've gotten used to giving a little 'thank you' wave to those who give me some space.
Full service gas. I can't pump my own fuel? I have to wait for some high school kid, probably getting $8/hr to come do it. He gets busy with other cars, and it takes way too long to get-in and get-out of there.
Goods:
No sales tax!
Lots of microbrews!
Everyone votes by mail. We don't have polling stations, you have to vote by mail. So convenient!
The weather: great for running.
Unsure:
Louisiana and Oregon are the only two states that still allow individuals to be convicted of felonies by non-unanimous jury verdicts. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing.
