Well I went into the weekend starting to feel a cold coming on. I probably should have stayed home on Friday, but I had lots of work to do, and really did need to go.
I slept early Friday night, and a good portion of Saturday afternoon and again well on Sat. night (all around, i slept 23 of the 48 hours). While not sleeping or drinking tea, I had a lazy/relaxing weekend of movie watching and book reading.
First we watched "What's up Tiger Lily?" an old Woody Allen film circa 1966. If you've never heard of it, it was actually pretty clever. He took some old Japanese action movie, and dubbed in a whole new plot that revolved around a guy trying to track down an egg salad recipe so that some other guy could get his country "on the globe". I fell asleep towards the end, but what i saw was pretty funny.
Next up was "Snakes on a Plane". We got this a while back, but never got around to watching it. It was about what i expected, I'd give it a "meh".
Then came "Running on the Sun", a movie about a running race called the Badwater 135. It's a race thought Death Valley in the middle of July. Temperature at the start was 130 degrees, but they call it the 'Badwater 135' because they run 135 miles. It includes a couple of mountains, and is commonly known as one of the toughest races around. I liked it and found it inspirational (not that i'd want to run it, at least right now). If you like seeing people push themselves to the limit, vomit, and pop blisters on their feet, you'll love it! (BTW, they must finish within 60 hrs, or 48 if they want the prized belt-buckle.)
Next up was "Barry Lyndon", one of the few Stanley Kubrick films I've never seen. It was ok, not really my thing though.
So that was about it for the movies. I also saw most of season 1 disc 1 of The Simpsons and a couple of episodes of Firefly.
Firefly. Friends who have good taste, have recommended it, and so far, it's pretty good. Nothing to write home about. I'm still into it enough that I'm going to keep watching and see how it goes. But man, that musical intro. It hits me every time i hear it. The word awkward comes to mind, but otherwise, it's cool.
So that was my weekend on the couch.
I did finish a couple books too.
One was about a teenage wizard and his fight against evil, you've probably never heard of it. I liked it, a good finish to the series.
The other was "Invisible Monsters" by Chuck Palahniuk. Awesome! Check it out.
So that shows how my film and literature tastes tend to run the gambit. It was a quite diverse weekend in terms of film, so don't judge me on that.
